Outdoor Kitchens Built for Estate Entertaining
Covered cooking pavilions, wood-fired pizza ovens, masonry hearths, and full bar service — designed for the way Loudoun, Fauquier, and Clarke estates actually entertain.
The kitchen is the room. The pavilion is the architecture.
An estate outdoor kitchen is not a grill island bolted to the back of the house. It is a covered, ventilated, plumbed, gas-served entertaining structure with the same level of engineering as the residence itself. We design it that way, then build it that way.
Most of our outdoor kitchens sit under a hand-cut timber frame pavilion produced in our shop, anchored by a masonry hearth wall with a wood-fired oven, and serviced by a full bar. The result is a destination structure that draws guests away from the residence and holds them through dinner.
The four entertaining stations
Cooking Station
Built-in gas grill, side burners, ventilated under-counter refrigeration, and a dedicated prep counter — typically anchored under a covered timber frame structure.
Pizza Oven & Hearth
Wood-fired masonry oven (Mugnaini, Forno Bravo, or custom) integrated into a stone hearth wall. The signature feature for serious entertainers.
Bar & Beverage Service
L-shaped masonry bar with seating, kegerator, ice maker, and lit bottle display. Designed for the Loudoun and Fauquier wine country lifestyle.
Dining Terrace
Covered dining for 8–14 with overhead heat, ceiling fans, and integrated lighting — usable from April through November in Northern Virginia.
Engineering an outdoor kitchen correctly
- Gas line sizing and pressure — most estate kitchens require a dedicated regulator and 1¼" line from the LP tank or natural gas meter.
- Ventilation under covered structures — exhaust hoods are required for grills under solid roofs in most Virginia jurisdictions.
- Grease trap and waste — full-service outdoor kitchens with sinks require permitted plumbing tied to the residence's septic or sewer.
- Roof load for masonry — pizza ovens and stone hoods can add 4,000–8,000 lbs of point load that the pavilion frame must carry.
- Cold-weather drainage — water lines and drain runs require pitch and shutoffs to survive Virginia winters.

Frequent questions
What does a custom outdoor kitchen cost in Northern Virginia?
Estate-grade outdoor kitchens in Loudoun, Fauquier, and Clarke counties typically range from $75,000 to $250,000+. The largest cost drivers are masonry mass (pizza ovens, hearth walls), the covering structure, and integrated appliances.
Do you build the pavilion that covers the kitchen?
Yes. Hearthstone runs an in-house timber frame shop, so the kitchen, the covering pavilion, and the surrounding hardscape are designed and built under one contract.
Can outdoor kitchens be used year-round in Virginia?
With overhead infrared heat, ceiling fans, retractable screens, and a wood-fired hearth, most of our estate outdoor kitchens are usable from April through November and on milder winter days.
